Abstract

Five working days to government sectors has become one of the policies that may have a positive and negative impact especially on the organizational performance. As for the civil servants, they are able to balance the time they spend on work, family, and social life. In addition, the impact can lead to the high and low productivity level of the civil servants. These are the measure whether the implementation of this new system is effective or not and whether it will change the organizational performance among the public servant in government sector. Regarding policy, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has said in Dewan Rakyat that the implementation of five working days was deemed and believed to give the positive impact towards the nation building and will not reverse the productivity. The Chief Secretary, Tan Sri Samsudin Osman support the statement by said it will not affect the Public Sector performance. Many was shock with the Prime Minister’s announcement since in the past government reject on any new working system that may bring a drawbacks to the nation. The idea was whether the policy is relevance at the present climate in which government want to provide best delivery system to the public (Berita Harian, 30/06/2005, Minggguan Malaysia, 3/7/2005).
