Abstract

Coffee table has different functions depending on the design, size, and where it will be placed. Generally, it is a very important and necessary item in a living room. It is also available in many various variations and costs vary from style to style and it helps to form a flow of traffic through the furniture. The aim of this study is to design and manufacture a modern coffee table made from wood waste by applying a chevron pattern at the table top, as well as to analyse feedback from respondents on the characteristics of this product through online research survey. Materials that were used to manufacture this product were raw materials using wood waste (from Kelempayan and Meranti), PVAc adhesives, hollow metal for table legs, and wax for the finishing process. A set of questionnaires was delivered randomly to 149 respondents from different demographic factors (gender, age, profession, and income). The characteristics of this product that been evaluated were based on the suitability of raw materials, design, marketability, and satisfaction. Reliability analysis, demographic analysis, descriptive analysis, comparative analysis, and correlation analysis were used to analyse the data. Results show that all respondents were satisfied with this product with a mean rating of 1.4 (very good). The respondents also agreed that the chevron pattern that had been applied on the table top (from wood waste) had enhanced the appearance of the table top. In conclusion, this modern chevron coffee table has good potential to be commercialized in the current furniture market. Based on the data that has been made, there is an error while doing the questionnaire title scale. Supposedly 1 is strongly disagree and 5 is strongly agree. But in the questionnaire, it turns into 1 being the strongly agree and 5 being the strongly disagree. So, the lowest score mean value on the graph is actually the highest score mean value.
