Abstract
The study was conducted to study the level of grammatical awareness of the Part 8TESL students on forming negative statements in Faculty of Education UiTM Shah Alam and to find out which verb group the students have the most and the least problems when forming negative statements. A total of 15 students from TESL Part 8students were selected. A test was developed with different verb groups to fulfil this mission. The results indicate that the ability of the respondents in forming negative statements is only satisfactory. The findings also show that the verb groups the respondents have the most problems with are the simple tenses and the combination of modal verbs with more than three auxiliaries.
