Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the professional competency of local authorities in building control in Malaysia. Professional competency is the combination between knowledge, competence, personal, behavior and cognitive competency. There are a few issues in local authorities which are lack of knowledge and skill among of the local authorities in building control to manage their work in organization. Besides that, the services provided in local authorities are inefficient and raises the dissatisfaction of the public. These studies are involved by 149 of local authorities building control department in Malaysia. The findings of the studies were collected in two methods which is quantitative and qualitative. For quantitative, 43 set of questionnaires from building control department were collected and qualitative method were carried out by using semi structure interview with three important person in building control with different categories of local authorities. From the finding, it can be seen the most important of competency are required for building control, the level of competency and training provide in building control department. These studies are recommendation on the improvement on the competencies level and suggestion on required training needs.
