Abstract

High level of demand occurred to high quality furniture in Malaysia. Basically, the quality of furniture produced is depending on the material and production process. Moreover, the finishing’s quality of the furniture also plays their role in classifying the quality level of a product. This study is conducted to determine the effect of different particle sizes and different finishing systems application for a particleboard from Gliricidia sepium. Besides that, this study also to determine the effect of hardener in particleboard surface. Two different particle sizes were used in these studies which are 1mm and 0.5 mm. Two types of finishing system and acid catalyst (AC) lacquer was being applied to the particleboard. Then, different finishing testing was being conducted in determining its finishing properties, which is physical and mechanical testing. Indirectly, the study also wanted to introduce the use of particleboard from Gliricidia sepium as a replacement for timber resources which are declining at present and the best finishing system that should be applied in getting the best finishing properties of particleboard from Gliricidia sepium.
