Abstract
Finishing is the last process of manufacturing furniture but it is important an process that will determine the value of the furniture. The finishing properties of coating material (Polyurethane lacquer) on Acacia mangium wood were ascertained. The effects of different finishing method which brushing and spraying with different number of undercoat layers (1, 2 and 3 layers) were determined. PU sealer as undercoat and PU lacquer as a topcoat were applied. All the samples used air drying method to cure the coating. Four types of finishing testing were used to determine the properties of PU lacquer. There are surface roughness test, hardness test, cross hatch test and resistant to household chemical test. This study used American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM ) for the standard testing and procedures. On 3x1 system shows the better performance for all types of testing. Brushing is good performance compared to spraying method in surface roughness and hardness test. Meanwhile, brushing and spraying method resulted same performance in cross hatch and resistant to household chemicals.
