Abstract
Sustained load test up was carried out on two slab positions in a data centre room and Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru, Johor. The test was carried out by the request of the client due to the installation of a new airconditioning system weighing approximately 30 kg per unit. The work was appointed by Perantara Trading, Johor. Loading was sustained for 24 hours and during the test, deflection was recorded for every 15 minutes using a
data logger. The findings shows that the deflection was within the allowable limit as referred to the Code of Practice. However, close visual inspection found the “beam and block” system was used in the construction of the slab
since the early years of the building service life. Further discussion on the test results are given in this report
