Abstract
Pure honey is extensively well known to possess various health benefits while adulterated honey was proven to adversely cause many health complications. Therefore, study on the physicochemical analysis of several Malaysian honeys is crucial in order to increase the currently scarce quality knowledge of these profiles as well as to prevent from adulterated honey. The honey samples involved in this study include 5 test samples which were collected around Malaysia and two reference samples were tested with physicochemical test to determine the purity and quality of the honey samples. The results of the study had proved that most of physicochemical properties of selected Malaysian honeys were within the prescribed range set by the Codex Alimentarius even kelulut honeys and rubber tree honeys had high level of moisture content and free acidity. Besides that, the acacia honey and tualang honey had been proven to be the high quality as all the value of physicochemical properties are mostly within the maximum pescribd limit set by the Codx Alimentarius except for moisture content. The moisture content of selected Malaysian honey does not comply with the international standard due to climatic factor in Malaysia. Thus, the further study on other physicochemical properties of Malaysian honeys such as sugar profile, diastase activity and other parameters was recommended in order to ensure its purity and quality.
