Abstract

Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is a new type of wood composite which is yet to be commercially produced in Malaysia. Oriented strand boards are made of strands which the strands for the faces are oriented parallel with the long direction of the panel. The core layers are oriented edgewise. OSB is one of wood composite panel which have most similar strength properties with plywood. The purpose of this study to determine the strength properties of OSB include Modulus of Elastic (MOE), Modulus of Rapture (MOR), internal bond, thickness swelling and water absorption using Acacia mangium as a raw material. This trial using 7 % resin content with density 600 kg/m3 to assess the strength properties comparable with European Standard (EN310) whether this trial suitable to commercialize it or not.
