Export of plywood by Malaysia to Asia for the year 2000 and 2001 / Aizat Hidayat Khairul Anwar

Plywood is the one of the wood-based product that is produced by the plywood mills in Malaysia about half century ago. Plywood is the wood-based panel that has for along time being in the market. It's use not specific but ranges from the construction industry to the material for the furniture making. The number of plywood mills in Malaysia decreased from year to year that is 28 mills in 1990 to 47 mills in 1999. This study was conducted to know the of plywood by Malaysia to Asia for the year 2000 and 2001. The study also includes the export market condition of Asia for plywood by Malaysia and the increase and decrease of price per volume of plywood in Asia market for the year 2000 and 200I. From the study, it shows that the demand of plywood in Asia market has decreased from the year 2000 and 2001. The increase of plywood price for the year 2001 and competition from other product contributed to this decreases. For the year 2000, Malaysia has exported plywood to Asia Union for RM 1,150.42 per meter cubic, but for the year 2001 the price was RM 1,005.22. For the export of plywood the total decreased from 2,734,132 meter cubic in 2000 to 2,713,437 cubic meters in 2001. The average export price of plywood (4x8 ft) in 2001 is RM 11.50 for 4mm thickness, RM 18.15 for 6mm thickness, RM 26.95 for 9mm thickness and RM 33 for 12mrn thickness. In 2001, the average local price of plywood (4x8 ft) for 4mm and 12mrn thickness was increase to RM 13.21 for 4mm thickness and RM 34.51 for 12mm thickness. For the plywood of 6mm and 9mm thickness, the price was decreased to RM 16.75 for 6mm thickness and RM 25.08 for 9mm thickness. Although the new raw material i.e. rubber wood had been used but it cannot support the production of plywood. Competitors from the other wood-based product like medium density fireboard is the amount the main factors for decreasing export trend of this industry.
