Abstract
This study was an attempt at learning strategy research. Its main objective was to implement an integrated strategy instruction model called CALLA (Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach, Chamot & OMalley’s) to sensitize the students to strategy use and applications in actual ESL classroom. The CALLA model however was adapted and contextualised in the form of CAELI (Content-Area English Language Instruction - coined by current researchers) to suit UiTM’s ESL situation. Since CAELI was a prototype model, its implementation was piloted. The research comprised conducting CAELI lessons (8 lessons altogether), and assessing the participants’ perception on the effectiveness of the CAELI model. The study found that the participants perceived the CAELI model positively and were in favour of its use.
