Abstract
The construction industry has one of the largest network supply chains from clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, manufacture, the financial insurance institution and, the consumer. Quantity Surveying has been a long-established profession in Malaysia. The aim of this research paper is to study the expectations of the Malaysian construction industry towards the competencies of consultant quantity surveying firms from the client’s perspective. The three main objectives of this research are to identify the roles required of consultant quantity surveying firms, to analyse the perception and expectation of clients on the competencies of consultant quantity surveying firms and to highlight the client’s perspective as a guide to the improvement to quantity surveying consultant firm’s competencies. The research was carried out in Kuching District in Sarawak where the quantitative analysis was used to obtain data for this study findings. A sum of questionnaires was handed out and 60 of them have been responded. Data are analysed by using SPSS software. From the findings, the researcher finds that respondents are able to identify the roles required of consultant quantity surveying firms. However, majority of the respondents expects high competency level from consultant quantity surveying firms.
