Abstract

Nowadays, leverage is recognized to be higher in the listed companies in Malaysia stated in The Edge Market. This may indicate the company to have a financial risk that may lead to a bankruptcy. Moreover, the qualification of the management also an important factor that may affect the strategic decision in a firm. The main purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of the leverage and managerial skills towards the shareholder's return. The study selected the top 30 listed company of Bursa Malaysia as sample. The data collected are the proxies of leverage, managerial skills, size, price to book ratio, effective tax rate and industry effects. The data are collected from the Thomson Reuters from the year 2013 until 2017. This study is using panel data and applying cross-sectional regression. The study expects leverage and managerial skills to have significant impact toward shareholders' return.
