Abstract

Job stress is one of the work characteristic that can affect job performance in nursing and this also can affect their intention to stay work as a nurse. In this study, an attempt
has been made to study the relationship between job stress and job performance among nurses in private hospital. This study was conducted at two private hospitals in Kelantan which are KPJ Perdana Hospital and Kota Bharu Medical Centre Hospital. There are five factors being considered in this study which are demographic information, workload, patient, working environment and personal problem. Primary data has been used in which
219 nurses have been selected by using stratified random sampling after the sample size has been identified by using Raosoft software. However, only 208 responded. This study
used a cross-sectional design and self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire was adapted from Damit (2007) to measure the factors of job stress and six dimension scale of nursing performance (6-DNSP),(Schwirian, 1978) was used to measure job performance.
Data were analysed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Structural equation modelling (SEM). In this study, the packages used are Statistical Package for Social
Science (SPSS) version 20.0, Analysis of Moments Structure (AMOS) version 20.0 and SmartPLS version 3. Result of the study revealed that there is no significant difference
between gender, marital status, education, position and age on job performance. This study also found that only personal problem has negative significant relationship on job performance.
