Abstract

In line to develop substitute material in bamboo species, research had been carried out for new material. The objective of this study is to investigate the chemical properties of bambusa heterostachya and to evaluate its potential as a material to develop a wood product. Samples were taken from Jengka 20. Five chemical properties of bambusa heterostachya was determine, namely moisture content, cold water solubility, hot water solubility, 1% NaOH solubility and ASH content. In this study, it shown that the moisture content was 30.2%, cold water solubility 39.38%, hot water solubility 41.2%, 1% NaOH 77.15% and ASH content 2.83%.
