Abstract

The properties and uses of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jac,.) biomass are discussed. The oil palm gives the highest yields per hectare of all oil crops at present. The family of palms, the Arecaceae, has always formed a distinct group of plants among the monocotyledons. Its occur in palm groves throughout the tropical rainforest belt of West Africa, but the most productive parts of the industry at present are in Malaysia and Indonesia, which provide most of the international trade. The properties of oil palm biomass included physical, chemical and fiber properties. The oil palm biomass is suitable to be are to produce the wood-based industry product. Hence, the oil palm biomass is an alternative material for uses in wood industry.
