Abstract
The forests in Malaysia have been systematically managed since the establishment of the Forestry Department in 1901. Over the years, ecologically and environmentally sound forest conservation and management practices have been develop to ensure that the forest resources in Malaysia are managed for the sustainable production of timber and non-timber products, in enhancing climatic stability and ecological balance, the safeguarding of water suppliers and environmental quality, and in the conservation of biological diversity. The forest management system is practice now in Peninsular Malaysia is the Selective Management System. This system entails the selection of optimum management (felling) regimes based on pre-felling forest inventory data. The effectiveness of this system wills decreasing the forested area and gives more forest yield to this country. Suitable to the National Forestry Act 1984, they mention to ensure forest resources are managed intensively under sustainable forest concept.
