Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to explore the influence of big five personality factors and career commitment on employees in MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. Moreover, the research aims to discover which big five personality factors which are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience have the most detrimental effect on an employee’s career commitment in MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. The methodology is to achieve the above aim; five sets of hypotheses were proposed which are 1) there is a relationship between extraversion and career commitment in MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, 2) there is a relationship between agreeableness and career commitment in MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, 3) there is a relationship between conscientiousness and career commitment in MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, 4) there is a relationship between emotional stability and career commitment in MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and 5) there is a relationship between openness to experience and career commitment in MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. Furthermore, a questionnaire also was used which is personality factors using the Big Five factor model (FFM) and career commitment was measured using the 10-itemed measure of Carson & Bedeian (1994). 61 Participants from MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur which is all employees participates as participants in order to answers the questionnaire. The outcome of the study indicated some patterns which are extraversion and conscientiousness are significant with career commitment whereas agreeableness, emotional stability and openness to experience are not significant with career commitment. Value of the research findings suggest that both extraversion and conscientiousness are important factors influencing career commitment at MARA Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.
