Abstract
The course introduces the students to the distinct writing styles and practices of a variety of non-fictional prose genres encompassing essays and opinion pieces, articles and blogs, travel writing, food writing, sports writing and also the practice of writing biographies and memoirs. The course is designed to provide the students with required skills and techniques, relevant structure and organization, planning and researching in order to transform experiences, recollections and real-life phenomena into creative works that are enjoyable and accessible to a wider audience. It will also enable the students to recognize which things are significant, how to characterize them in a clear and convincing voice and how to “show” rather than “tell” that will sustain a reader’s interest.
