FFT234 : Malaysian theatre appreciation / Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation

The aim of the course is to study the historical and thematic development of Malaysian theatre. It will include an overview of the progression of Malaysian theatre starting from the traditional art forms to the growth of modern and contemporary. This course introduces the students to the categorizes of traditional theatre which involved myriad forms and performance structure. Furthermore, this subject engaged the students to the development of modern theatre from 1970s to the recent theatre productions. Students will be exposed to the dramatic works of the prominent Malaysian playwrights. The students too will be engaged in the process of theatre appreciation through readings, viewings and guided discussions.
