Abstract
The "Japanese Moku-Zogan Technique Application to Malaysian Furniture Design" project has evolved to feature the Rothschild Slipper Orchid, known as The Gold of Kinabalu motifs in traditional Malaysian furniture. This innovative fusion seamlessly integrates the intricate Moku-Zogan woodworking technique with the unique beauty of the orchid, symbolizing a harmonious blend of Malaysian and Japanese influences. Through meticulous research, the creative exploration aims to craft culturally significant pieces that celebrate the rich biodiversity of Malaysia, offering commercially appealing furniture with a botanical twist. The incorporation of The Gold of Kinabalu adds elegance and natural symbolism to the furniture, showcasing the transformative power of cross-cultural design in the context of the orchid's exquisite beauty. The design project aims to widely apply the traditional Japanese Moku-Zogan technique in Malaysian furniture design to introduce Japanese cultural identities and promote Malaysian cultural identities. It seeks to create a unique fusion of artistic influences, fostering crosscultural appreciation and recognition between Japan and Malaysia. The project aims to develop a distinctive and culturally rich collection of furniture pieces that celebrate the beauty and craftsmanship of both traditions while bridging the two diverse cultures.
