Abstract
This project delves into the intricate art of designing furniture featuring the Sebilang and Karakusa patterns. Despite their origins in distinct cultural backgrounds, both patterns converge on a shared focus, encompassing material selection, pattern integration, jointing techniques, and meticulous technical considerations. For Sebilang pattern furniture, a central aspect is the choice of materials, often highlighting the natural allure of local hardwoods like belian. The Sebilang pattern, with its intricate motifs, is inlaid into the wood through traditional jointing methods, ensuring a harmonious blend of aesthetics and structural integrity. Technical aspects are meticulously tailored to factors such as weight distribution and ergonomic design, ensuring that Sebilang-patterned furniture not only captivates visually but also serves its intended purpose with comfort. In contrast, Karakusa pattern furniture design offers a diverse range of material choices to suit the specific design context. Fabrics or leather are often employed for upholstery, While ceramics take center stage in other pieces. The integration of the Karakusa pattern prioritizes graceful aesthetics and seamless alignment with furniture contours. Precise detailing and application complement traditional jointing techniques, and technical considerations, including glazing and fabric selection, enhance the durability and comfort of Karakusa-patterned furniture. In summary, this project unveils the delicate equilibrium between artistic expression and functional design in furniture adorned with the Sebilang and Karakusa patterns, uniting these culturally diverse patterns under the umbrella of meticulous material selection, pattern integration, jointing techniques, and technical refinement.
