The ‘Speak Kit’ is an alternative form of speaking assessment. It is a game-based speaking kit that could be used as a pre-or post-lesson activity. The kit aims at driving and motivating the students to speak with minimal-to-no teacher’s help and interference. It was developed to provide the students with a safe platform to use the target language to share and explain their point of view, state their preferences, and explain the advantages and disadvantages of their opinions and or ideas. In addition, it also helps to encourage the students to justify their thoughts. ‘Fun’ penalties are included in the kit to make the game more riveting. The ‘Speak Kit’ is hoped to increase the student’s vocabulary, confidence in engaging in discussion, and ability to express and justify their thoughts and opinions. The ‘Speak Kit’ also allows the teachers to be creative in meeting their students’ needs. The kit is adaptable and could be used with plenary topics, themes, disciplines, age groups, and levels of proficiency.
