Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of community service experience toward self esteem among government employees. There were 337 questionnaires distributed at Temerloh Municipal Council and only 95 questionnaires were returned. Based on the article that was published by New Straits Times on September 12, 2012, Akil and Lingan reported that the Ministry of Education, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that every primary and secondary school students will be required by 2017 to participate in community service in order to develop values-driven Malaysians. The research design used is correlational research. This study used the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 for the data analysis. There are three factors of self-esteem that have been tested in this study which are Perception of Personal Appearance, Perception of Personal Performance and Perception of How I am Perceived by Others. The most significant factor of self-esteem that affected from community service experience was Perception of How I am Perceived by Others. The respondents of this study were the staff of Temerloh Municipal Council. The result showed a significant relationship between community service and self-esteem. From the findings, it can be concluded that employees feel that they were more confident in front of public after they involved with community service.
