Abstract

Absenteeism is a serious problem that affects most school in every country resulting in negative effects for the students, school district, and the community. This research has assessed the level of absenteeism and which factors is the most correlate with absenteeism among students in University Tunku Abdul Razak (UNITAR), Kota Kinabalu. The finding revealed that personal factor is the most potential factor of absenteeism in UNITAR. The greatest concern seemed to be lack of personal and education ambition where students did not take seriously with the important of study. In addition, this research also found that the level of absenteeism in UNITAR is moderate, which means that absenteeism in UNITAR is still under control. The researcher suggests that management boards should take full response that comprises of high-quality early education, parents education, incentives for students' attendance as well as community concern to involve in this matter to reduce absenteeism in UNITAR. An additional survey should be conduct in the future to see if the absenteeism rates have improved.
