Abstract

Until recently, furniture with Malay carved heritage is not only known for uniqueness, but also the faithful traditional idea of art in Malay. It is a reflection the splendour and attractiveness of aesthetical elements or ornaments embellishing them that carry deeper philosophical and sacred meanings. Thus, assimilating elements of Malay carved ornaments into home furniture is seen as an approach towards lifted the heritages that have been forgotten. Therefore, this study was conducted to produce Bedside Table with Malay Carved Ornament's Themes for provides own space bed corner and to makes a multi-utility bedside table innovatively. In this study, mix tropical hardwoods; Tembusu (Fagraea fragrans) and Meranti Seraya (Shorea curtisii) have been used as the raw material for the manufacturing of this product. It has been used widely because of its durability and easy working properties. It is easy to cut and works on many operations such as carving, screwing and gluing. By applying Kano Model principles, the product met all the requirements as far they could be assessed. This bedside table have an aesthetical design, high quality and safe to use and most likely somewhat cheaper than contemporary home furniture.
