Abstract
This course will introduce students to major movement of design in the twentieth century with emphasis on key individuals and iconic designs which helped shape it. The structure of the course will follow both chronology of events and geographical impact besides special attention on building new point-of-views on the future of design in Malaysia. Weekly goals will expose students understanding to the distinct characteristic of design movement through small sessions of open discussions and reflection. Two tests will be conducted and carried through as progress marks. Final exam on the other hand, will assess student’s ability to identify and describe key Twentieth Century movements in terms of its style, concept and philosophy. As a move to accept the calling of global change, throughout the entire course, students will be trained to develop a general appreciation for design’s role in shaping civilization and higher level of confidence as designers in Malaysia by establishing the identity and unique role that designers can play when working in multi-disciplinary fields.
