Abstract

This course introduces students to a number of literary works, both printed and electronic. Students will read a selection of Shakespearean tragedies, comedies, histories and sonnets in order to learn about the culture Shakespeare lived in and wrote for. An exploration of Shakespearean themes will be carried out. Students will also learn how to critically analyze of the plays and sonnets. Emphasis will be placed on the skills and background knowledge necessary to decipher the input for accurate comprehension/interpretation of the texts. The successful achievement of the learning outcomes demonstrated by the students will be part of their ongoing evaluation. Evaluation involves the ability to organize and articulate their understanding/opinion via written and verbal responses regarding the works.
