Abstract

In this course students will be introduced to a number of literary works, both printed and electronic, written and produced by Asians spanning a number of decades. The selection of texts will comprise short stories, movies and a novella. This course will serve to illustrate the intricacies and subtleties inherent in Asian literature as an art form separate and distinct from Western literature. Emphasis will be placed on the skills necessary for input which involves accurate comprehension and interpretation of texts as well as output which involves organizing and articulating verbal and written responses to the texts. Additionally, students will need to do presentations to demonstrate understanding of literary elements and psycho-social issues related to the study of Asian writers.
