Abstract

In this course students are introduced to selected prose, produced by contemporary writers from Asia and Africa. The selection of texts comprises of short stories and novels. This course serves to illustrate the intricacies and subtleties inherent in world literature. Emphasis is placed on the skills necessary for input which involves accurate comprehension and interpretation of texts as well as output which involves organising and articulating verbal and written responses to the texts. Additionally, students will need to do presentations to demonstrate understanding of literary elements and human concerns/issues inherent in the selected texts.
