Abstract
Explore the diversifying role of artists in the complexity of selected and dominant visual culture of the world that includes the regions of Asia, Oceanic, Mediterranean and The Malay Archipelago. Common theme such as nature and environment will also be studied and studied. Contextual issues include the relationship of artists and art to culture, politics, economics, and modern technologies are also emphasized. Students will choose common theme and explore how that common theme has been visually depicted by a variety of cultures in a variety of time and period. Using this understanding, they will create their own artwork and communicate in an art world context. Through a series of lectures, workshops, individual research projects, students will gain skills and understanding of the theoretical, per formative and evaluative knowing of art practice and art criticism.
