Abstract
This course is designed with the aim of developing the awareness in students of the ideology and philosophies of visual art and heritage in Museum and Gallery as well as other cultural organization. It also provides the understanding of the broad educational functions of the gallery/museum, including the appreciation of art, heritage and the development of lifelong approach to learning. Students will have the opportunity to observe the educational functions of art Museum and Gallery within a diversity of contexts and systematically investigate the plurality of goals the gallery performs within our society. Through a variety of in-class projects and exercises, service-learning and observation, museum/gallery-based classes, and readings, students will gain an understanding of the role of museum/gallery educators, museum/gallery educational programs, current issues in museum education, and informal/non-formal learning in museums. Students would also experience the role of museum/gallery, in the learning process, planning and development of learning activities, life-long learning and the educational mission of museums, the role of museums in promoting diversity in learning, and museum-community partnerships.
