Abstract
In the course of life, housing problems in Malaysia has become a phenomenon. The government, ever since our independence, has been addressing the housing problems especially among the middle and lower income group especially in the urban and suburban areas. While housing projects are aggressively growing everywhere, nevertheless squatter areas likewise are also mushrooming. The Kampung Medan incidence is the evident to the problem. As a peace loving Malaysian, I have developed a keen insight to the problems. As a former banker and familiar with the Singapore Central Provident Fund housing withdrawal scheme, I have encroached into looking for ways to end the country's housing woes. I will be using the Employee Provident Fund as the driver to solve the housing problem. The thesis will provide data and information on how the Employee Provident Fund can be used to end the housing problems. The data and information will include repayment calculation, easy repayment procedures and how it will relieve millions of Malaysian from financial constraints of having to repay housing loan, once they buy a house. A survey carried out in the Klang Valley and Johor Bahru has received an outstanding response. All Malaysian are supportive of the scheme. The sampling, data analysis and principal findings will narrow down to only one response - everyone agrees to the scheme. At the end of the thesis, we will find that the scheme is appropriate, friendly, easy and applicable to every Malaysian who a contributor to the Employee Provident Fund. We will also find and gather that the thesis will not only solve the housing problems but also show a new direction for the Employee Provident Fund investment portfolios as well as making our banking sector to be more professional in their approach and to be able to contribute more towards the country development.
