Abstract
Past two decades, Malaysia has gone through vast land development based on a development plan that has been stated by Malaysia government which contributes toward rapid urbanization. Apart from this, this plan has shifting urban waterfront toward waterfront development that contributes toward urban tourism, mixed used development and potential recreational purposes toward sustainable development in Malaysia. This paper aims to reinvigorate the urban waterfront development toward urban tourism and enhance recreation as well as to find a solution to mitigate site issues that have been faced at the area toward better socio-economic, sustainable environment, and healthy social lifestyle at Kuala Besut, Besut, Terengganu. The significance of this study is to rejuvenate the existing development toward the better quality of vibrant open spaces that can be used as recreation that contribute toward promoting the historical and cultural value as Kuala Besut becoming tourism gateway center. Data has been collected through inventory and analysis that has been conducted. After then, synthesis process has been done to find the strength and potential of site study toward better socio-economic, sustainable environment, and healthy social lifestyle. As a landscape architecture profession, by proposing a proper planning at waterfront area, Kuala Besut can become a vibrant tourism gateway for tourist as well as local on contributing toward local benefit. Lastly, complete design with specific guidelines for the study can achieve the aim of the study of reinvigorating the existing waterfront development toward better socio-economic, sustainable environment, and healthy social lifestyle.
