Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the common defects that can be found at a wet market and the factors of the defects. It was also conducted to identify the maintenance management of the wet market in Shah Alam. A literature review was conducted prior the on-site observation. Observation was conducted to identify the building defects and the causes of the defects. An interview was conducted to obtain information on the maintenance management. Base on the observation conducted the most common defects identified are road patches and potholes, mould and fungi growth, rusting stains, faded paint and broken tiles on walls and floor area. There is also the defect in public toilet such as broken pipes and clogged drains. Base on the interview conducted it is understood that the budget allocated for maintenance work was insufficient and that some of the defects are caused by the negligence of consumers. A proper maintenance management and also public awareness is important in keeping any building functioning as intended and provide comfort to users.
