Abstract
This paper focuses on the designing and developing networking system in a controlled environment as a platform for deploying network exploit based on a courseware. The end product of this project is a complete lab manual to assist instructor on how to perform the predetermined exploits. The first step was designing and developing of local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) in a controlled environment. The LAN combines several perimeter defence device such as Intrusion Prevention System and Firewall, several servers such as web, file and domain name server. As an add-on this project also provides Network Monitoring System for monitoring the LAN. Open source environment such as Ubuntu and Backtrack are used to develop the system. This system include routing, IP addressing and also network address translator (NAT) for simulation external exploit to the system. Second step was developing a courseware with predetermine exploits. This predetermine attack were actually consist basic exploits such as port scan, web scan, password cracking, database injection and also malware. The third and last step is producing a computer aided lab manual for the courseware. This provided a wide variety of exploit tools which instructor could use to prepare for lessons. In this way instructor retained complete control over how they prepared for a lesson. Finally, this project is considered as a test bed for instructor, student and also researcher for exploring and understanding perimeter defence and fundamental of exploits.
