Abstract

This research paper aimed to investigate the work-readiness and employability of Malaysian graduates from the government's perspectives. The respondents of this research consists of governments agencies which an interview was conducted with them. Three main questions were asked, what are the characteristics that an employable graduate need to possessed, what are the challenges in facing work-readiness among graduates and what are the strategies that have done to overcome this issue and how effective the strategies are. From the findings that was analysed through NVIVO software, it was found that the highest characteristics that a graduate need to possessed for employability is Attitude. Whereby, the major challenges that the government are facing in the work-readiness issue is the Parent's Role. One of their main strategies to overcome the issue at hand is through TalentCorp programs, which includes both Graduates Employability Management Scheme (GEMS) and Structured Internship Programme. The effectiveness of the strategies that the government has taken received great participation. It is recommended for the government form a mini committee for skills assessment, offer support that allow students to get working exposure and deliver extra exposure in primary and secondary schools.
