Abstract
This research examines the need to impose a specific subject of Environmental Education in school as a mean to achieve sustainable development. The aims of this research are to look at the weakness and inadequacy of the current environmental law in Malaysia and proposing non- legal measure which is Environmental Education to curb with the environmental issues in Malaysia. All this time, the legal measures seem inadequate to create awareness among the citizens and to shape environmental-friendly behavior. This research is looking for a solution to these problems by making a reference to Environmental Education in another jurisdiction which is Japan and Australia. In conducting this research, the data are gathered from the interviews, the review on some literature sources that had been published previously by the accredited scholars and resources, reported cases and the recent issues concerning the area of the study. Thus, this research recommends that the Ministry of Education (MOE) revamp the syllabus of Environmental Education in school and make it one specific subject to help achieving sustainable development.
