A study on acceptance of farmers toward variety paddy MR220 at KADA, Kelantan / Al Fahrol Husin

Paddy is an essential food source for human in world population. However, to get the enough supply for human, farmers need to grow paddy more and larger quantity. There was a problem that can lowest the yield of paddy production which is weedy rice. This was a symptom of paddy that grown ahead than other paddy. After that, surrounding growing paddy will face competition problem such as need of light and nutrient. MR220 or Clearfield (CL) was introduced by MARDI Malaysia to overcome this problem. This variety is resistant toward herbicide that been used for eliminate the weedy rice. However, farmers in Malaysia especially at Kelantan area may lacks of
knowledge, different attitude and income difficulties. Therefore, a research study was held at PPK Bakat Baru under KADA Kelantan to obtain farmers acceptance toward variety paddy MR220. Data was collected by questionnaire form that being answered by farmers that registered under KADA. About 180 farmers or respondents was randomly selected without replacement to fulfil the questionnaire and interviewed. Pearson Correlation method was used to determine the relationship between independent variable which are knowledge, attitude and income with dependent variable which is acceptance of farmers toward variety paddy MR220. Multiple regression also being used to obtain the most influence factor or variable that affecting dependent variable. From the research study, findings that have been found that independent variable have positively relationship with dependent variable. From the data was analysed, it showed that knowledge is the most influence factor affecting the farmers acceptance toward variety paddy MR220. Furthermore, all these findings provided important information for the future study. KADA management can use these findings to overcome any problems that blocked farmers to accept this MR220 variety. Lastly, limitation implication and recommendation also being discussed in this study which is it may useful for upcoming study.
