Abstract
Mathematics is common subject in higher education as its component may help students increase their critical thinking ability and focusing on problem solving. Recently, from 2018 onwards the failure rate of pre-calculus showed a decreasing pattern in UiTM Kuala Pilah. However, the mathematical performances of students in UiTM Kuala Pilah were still categorized in average level or underachievement. This research was conducted to investigate the relationship of the factors which are related to students’ underachievement in mathematical courses and to identify the significant factors which contribute towards students’ underachievement in mathematical course. The data was secondary data which consists of 211 respondents of students from campus UiTM Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan Campus. Therefore, descriptive analysis shows these problems involves mostly are female students and rest of them are male students. Besides, Multiple Linear Regressions were carried out to determine the significant factors which contribute towards students’ underachievement in mathematical course, MAT 133. It was discovered that the gender, assessment mark, and SPM result in subject’s additional mathematics was significant variables indicates to this issue.
