Abstract
In my creative process, I am always awed and inspired by nature. Serigraphy is my medium in which I use to explore and search for any new potential and possibilities to create my visual statement. Nature is indeed close to the Malay community as it has played a significant role in the Malay society for a long time, both in the cultural and social context. In the Malay society, flowers are used as a metaphor or a symbol. Moreover, in decorative design, it is often a reference to produce various forms of motifs or patterns. It is frequently used to name babies since it is attractive and fragrant. It is with no exception that flowers are an essential reference in the context of art. I raise flowers as a metaphor for specific situations, yet it remains a tribute to previous generations for their sensitivity to nature. In this current series, selected flowers such as roses, jasmine, orchid and others are used as metaphors. Black Roses on Green (2020) is one of the new series produced to respond and reflect on the current phenomenon, pandemic C-19.
