A study on the factors that contribute to environmental awareness among secondary school students in Merbok, Kedah / Shahrul lzwan Saidi and Syed Muhammad Syazwan Syed Ellias

Environmental awareness has become prior issue in some news. The level of people's environmental awareness would influence their behavior especially toward environment. Many consequences happened toward the nature such as flash flood, landslide and changing of temperature. It occurred due to the lack of environmental awareness. This study examine the factors contribute to environmental awareness among secondary school students in Merbok, Kedah. The factors are included the environmental knowledge, environmental attitude and socioeconomic status. Random samples of 338 secondary school students were approached to answer the questionnaires. Prior research done before this has revealed that the level of environmental awareness of secondary school students is low due to the lack of education in schools in term of environmental matters. Therefore, the main objective of this conducted is to investigate the factors that contribute to environmental awareness among secondary school students in Merbok, Kedah. Hopefully, from the result obtained from 338 sample size, it could identified either all the three main factors had contributed or not to environmental awareness among secondary school students.
