Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate whether there is a relationship between SPM English Language grade and the BEL 120 grade of UiTM Terengganu students. A sample of 100 Part II UiTM Terengganu Diploma students was randomly selected to respond to a specially designed questionnaire. The goal of the study was to investigate if the SPM English Language grade is an accurate predictor of university students’ English performance. Correlation analysis was done to find out the nature of the relationship between the SPM English Grade and the BEL 120 English Language Grade. Analysis of data collected showed that there is indeed a relationship. Data were also collected and analyzed to determine if the students’ home environment and family’s socio-economic status has any bearing on students’ English performance. It was also found that there is a relationship between the English language grade and reading habits of the students. In conclusion, the findings showed the SPM English Language grade was an accurate predictor of university students’ English performance
