Abstract
The gated community housing project has become a trend latest in the housing sector around Penang. Interested locals buying real estate or renting a premise in such an area does not matter leaving an open environment that has long been a part of it our lives and retreat to a place that is confined and more controlled behind high walls and large gated. People have started looking for schemes gated community housing that can provide greater security good. But gated communities are not difficult to break into. Gated and walls sometimes too low and allows one to easily climb in. 24-hour security patrols do not cover the entire community and this is due to the limitations and number of guards. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of safety features in crime prevention. The authors focus the study on population perceptions of development gated communities and their ability and effectiveness in mitigation crime rates in the study area. Study information was obtained through primary and secondary sources. Primary data were obtained through a questionnaire study.
