A study on the perception towards the performance of the local leaders (JKKK) in Putatan, Sabah / Dg Shamimi Yusri and Siti Safiah Durahman

JKKK is an agent that acts closely with the villagers. They responsible in governing and developing a village and become a prime mover agency in ensuring unity and integrate the source of power, development and changes in society's attitude towards more viable and innovative villagers. However, as they become an agent among the villagers, there is an issue of their performance as some of them neglect in performing their roles, duties and responsibilities. This paper provides empirical evidence on the perception towards performance of local leaders (JKKK) in determining the perception of the Putatan villagers towards the performance of their local leaders (JKKK) and to identify the factors influenced their perception which conducted in Putatan
District area. 110 respondents from seven villages in Putatan District participated in this Cross-Sectional survey. Data from a self-administered questionnaires were analyzes to see how the perception of people towards the performance or their local leaders (JKKK). The results indicated that people
perceived and viewed the performance of their local leaders (JKKK) moderately and there are 3 factors that influenced the people perception towards perfom1ance of JKKK, which are development of facilities and structures of the village, attributes of local leader and relationship between villagers
and local leaders. Overall, the findings answering the objectives and some limitation are discussed by the researchers following several suggestions to improve the research data.
