Abstract
The importance of tourism as a big money earner and therefore big business, has suddenly dawned upon Malaysia. Tourism however, is one industry which is sensitive to disruption, be it political or industrial. Recent events and experiences have demonstrated clearly on how the tourism industry may be drastically affected by the 1998 economic downturn in Asean countries. Chapter 1 would reveal the introduction on the title of this dissertation. Background study on the criteria, classification and development of resorts in Malaysia would be highlighted in Chapter 2. The principles of the Classification Scheme which is one of the main basis on categorising building by awarding the star rating system to every new means of accommodations such as hotel and resorts would be the main focus in Chapter 3. All the criteria would be further explained in detail. Based on the background studies done, all the elements would be applied on the case studies done, would be specified in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 would identified the analysis and comparison on determining what are the human response factors affecting the categorisation of building, and whether the star rating awarded influenced by any other contributing factors. Chapter 6 consists of conclusion and recommendations based on all the data, analysis and comparison obtainable and made.
