Abstract

The proliferation of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) poses a growing threat to knowledge integrity in domains where information carries spiritual, legal, and communal authority. In Islamic knowledge contexts, AI-generated religious content may circulate without adequate verification, attribution, or epistemic accountability, yet existing international AI governance instruments do not operationalise the source-authority, provenance, and scholarly-verification requirements of Islamic knowledge. This conceptual study introduces Halal Knowledge Integrity (HKI), a proposed domain-specific governance framework designed to safeguard the authenticity, verifiability, contextual validity, traceability, ethical production, and institutional accountability of AI-mediated Islamic knowledge. A structured, concept-centric review across four domains, namely AI governance, knowledge integrity, Islamic epistemology, and halal assurance, was conducted to develop HKI through cross-domain gap analysis and iterative framework construction. The key output is a framework comprising ten governance principles and an eight-stage lifecycle ecosystem. The principal contribution is a theoretically grounded and implementation-oriented governance architecture that extends halal assurance logic from physical products to AI-mediated knowledge, advancing the field of halal science and management into the digital knowledge domain. Five propositions are advanced to guide future empirical validation of the framework
