Abstract
The main aim o f this study is to investigate how well the implementation of teaching Mathematics and Science in English for secondary level specifically challenges faced by teachers of Mathematics and Science in SMK Bandar Maharani, Muar, Johor. Three sets of questionnaires were distributed to Mathematics and Science teachers, students, and English teachers in that particular school. 100 sets of the questionnaires were given to students regardless of their age and 17 questionnaires were distributed to the Mathematics and Science teachers. Due to the shortage of respondents, 5 sets of questionnaires were distributed to the English teachers. Findings gathered from the research answered the research questions.Lack of confidence level, different language used during their tertiary education and varieties of difficult terminologies used in the subjects respectively are found to be the factors of teachers’ inadequacy in teaching Mathematics and Science in English. The attitude towards the changes of medium of instruction is positive and the teachers make effort in teaching Mathematics or Science by using English even though they do have problems in delivering it. ETeMS programme conducted by the Ministry of Education is also said to be helpfulSeveral recommendations are made in order to improve the implementation of the teaching Mathematics and Science in English. These recommendations are divided into several categories; recommendations for Mathematics and Science teachers, English teachers, students, parents, school administration, Ministry of Education, and for future research.
