Abstract

This study examined the use of ChatGPT among CSC415 Programming 1 students during the March–August 2025 semester, exploring how often they used the AI tool, its purposes, and its perceived impact on learning, assignments, and exam preparation. While ChatGPT can accelerate learning, boost confidence, and assist with coding challenges, it also raises concerns about academic honesty, overreliance, and understanding of concepts. The findings provide valuable insights for educators and institutions on guiding responsible and effective use of AI in programming education.
