Abstract
This study explores how house extensions impact the aesthetics and privacy of neighbourhoods in Taman Maju Rapat and Taman Seri Rapat, Ipoh. It aims to understand residents’ perceptions towards these extensions, especially whether aesthetics or privacy is more affected. The study used a structured questionnaire distributed to residents, and the data collected from 143 valid responses were analysed using SPSS. Frequency and mean score analysis were used to identify trends and dominant views. Findings showed that while both aesthetic and privacy concerns were present, privacy was perceived to be more affected by the extensions. The study concludes that unregulated or excessive extensions can disrupt neighbourhood harmony and suggests that local authorities should enforce clearer guidelines and consider community feedback in renovation approvals. This research helps highlight the importance of balancing homeowner needs with community wellbeing.
